Welcome - Freedom Debate

Welcome to Ten's blogspot. Here we proudly present our unique venue, cocktails, staff, parties and much more.

Updated twice a week this site shows you what's going on, how to book your celebration or event, a bit of fun and looks back at some of the past events at Worthing's ultimate party venue.

In this rather LARGE post we feature Ten's weekend, offer up an interesting debate on the 'freedom' of the Internet, lighten up the tone with a glimpse at this years COMICON - and explain what on earth that is, have an article on being in the right place at the right time, announce the winners of our FITC competition, show an omnibus of our favorite drama 'The Staff' and show you couple of videos from YouTube.com.

FITC COMPETITION:
This weeks FITC winners have been chosen, and if you're a winner all you need to do is contact us through our Facebook group and we'll send you a printable voucher which you need to present at the bar to redeem your £10 bar tab.

Congratulations to these two for winning the bar tabs this week.  If you'd like a chance to win one of next weeks bar tabs then all you need to do is turn up at Ten on a Friday or Saturday night and attract the attention of our photographer Lukas.  Look out for the FITC Challenge which will give you the chance to win bigger and better prizes.

IS COMPLETE INTERNET 'FREEDOM' RIGHT?
Perhaps more than ever we have the ability to be as free as we please using the Internet, whether its the freedom to access data, go outside religious or cultural boundaries or communicate with anyone worldwide.  But this freedom brings it own issues and complications depending on your moral values.  Is it right to allow your child to visit whatever site they want and give them complete freedom to learn and make their own mistakes, or should you regulate them and their online habits.

The case in point is that of a young girl from the southern states of the US who has found mass notoriety on the Internet through her post(s) on YouTube.com.  The video in question and its subsequent post have brought about much debate about Internet freedom and whether parents should be regulating online behaviour.  The initial post was a video during which the girl had ranted about 'haters' and people who she felt were 'jealous' of what she was, which included her boasting about putting a "glock to your head and making a brain slushy".  The following video shows the first and second videos posted, watch the entire clip and make up your own mind.

As you may imagine this video prompted thousands of people to do something called 'trolling', which basically means that they insult her in the comments section of her video page.  It was such a large response in fact, that she posted another video in which she was clearly upset by the comments, and even her Dad shouts at the camera attacking those responsible for the trolling.  Aside from compounding the error by threatening the attackers with the 'cyber police', the father becomes something of an attraction himself, prompting musical remixes of his rant and many parodies. There is a rule of thumb online which is that you never attack a troll. To add to her Internet fame the girl appeared on regional US news station GMA claiming she was the victim of stalking and death threats.

So the question is; do you blame the parent for not providing suitable protection for his daughter, and is having an Internet connection in her bedroom going to give her freedom or make her a victim of it?  Is it right for someone to attack another individual who makes statements which invoke negative emotions?  Or is that what the Internet is for, freedom of speech?  One could suggest that if you put yourself in the public domain and open yourself to criticism then you should be able to - or learn to - handle whatever you get in return.  What do you think?

COMING UP:
What happens once a year, involves sugary products and means you get loads of people knocking at your door?  Its not The Annual Jehovah's Witness Cookie Sale, its Halloween!  And to mark the occasion Ten is putting on a Halloween special sponsored by WKD.

Come in fancy dress and you could win one of our wicked prizes, and if you're not in the mood for looking like a ghoulie then you can take advantage of our drink promotions.  Details to be comfirmed.

Also sponsored by WKD is our up and coming early drinks deals on a Friday night.  For only £2 per bottle you and your friends can enjoy a WKD night out at Ten without breaking your bank account.  Stay tuned to Ten for more information in the coming weeks.

Ten's Face in the Crowd competition has been growing in popularity and so we are launching an additional aspect to the FITC premise.  FITC Challenge is a competition where we dare you to come to Ten in a specific outfit, with a specific accessory or however we feel like making you look 'different'.  If you are brave enough to turn up in the specified way and have yourself photographed by Lukas the photographer then you can win some great prizes including 2 passes to the 2010 Southampton boat show on ladies day, and the chance to be in a music video!

There will be flyers in Ten giving you more information, so fill in the flyer and hand it to one of our staff for a chance to be in a music video.  And if you are brave enough prepare to be challenged!

RIGHT TIME, RIGHT PLACE:
The life of a freelance photographer brings about opportunities to take shots of a great many things that a 'normal' person may not ever get the chance to see.  But with the explosion of camera technology everyone has a camera of some description whether its attached to their phone, their glasses or a whopping great Nikon D3 as supported by the stereotypical uncle at the latest family do.  To celebrate mass visual data overload, here are some shots which are all about being in the right place at the right time.  ('Wrong' being a relative term depending on your perspective.)

COM-EDY-CON:
Its that time of year again, the US puts on a conference for comic book fans which is referred to as COMICON.  When someone says 'conference' to me it conjures up images of tired looking men in suits looking at OHP slides of pie charts and such things, but at the COMICON that couldn't be further from the truth.  COMICON inspires its visitors to dress as their favorite comic character and get together en mass to see who is the nerdiest.  Here are some of my favorite entries this year.

SOMETHING ELSE:
Typically in this section of the post we include various videos which pertain to the post itself.  So in this post we have debate, amusing pain, wickedness and a spot of COMICON-bashing so what clips do I use to illustrate this?

Well, after all that in the post today I think I should hide myself away Roman Polanski style - well, maybe not!  Thanks to everyone involved with Ten over the last week and we hope to see you for a party sometime soon!

Welcome - Inappropriate Brilliance

Welcome to Ten's blogspot. Here we proudly present our unique venue, cocktails, staff, parties and much more.

Updated twice a week this site shows you what's going on, how to book your celebration or event, a bit of fun and looks back at some of the past events at Worthing's ultimate party venue.

In this post we feature Ten's weekend, show you what makes a photographers job that little bit more difficult, an article on the wonderously inappropriate, announce the winners of our FITC competition show you couple of videos from YouTube.com.

FITC COMPETITION:
This weeks FITC winners have been chosen, and if you're a winner all you need to do is contact us through our Facebook group and we'll send you a printable voucher which you need to present at the bar to redeem your £10 bar tab.

Well done to those of you who won this weeks prizes, if you'd like to have a go at winning then all you need to do is come along to Ten on a Friday or Saturday night and attract attentoin to yourself.  Our photographer Lukas will be glad to immortalise your actions!

PHOTOGRAPHERS PHEAR:
As a professional photographer I found that there was always some comedian who wants to make your job that little bit harder.  From a blinking brides to grooms with urine splashes, children sticking their fingers up to passers by taking the opportunity to pull that face which is so original.  And so, to honour the hard work of these comedic sabateurs here are a set of photos which are only pleasing to me because they weren't a peripheral in any of my shots.

WONDEROUSLY INAPPROPRIATE:
This section was inspired by a friend of mine who works in social services.  She was defending a parent in court who had their children taken away from them.  Especially for the case the defendant appeared in a T-shirt which read 'Anti-sombre', perhaps to let the judge know that if nothing else they have a sense of humour.

SOMETHING ELSE:
Following our theme of inappropriation here are few commercials which have crossed the line of acceptability - although not enough to be taken off YouTube.

Thanks to everyone who has been a part of the HOTTEST bar in Worthing, and we look forward to seenig you all soon.
