COCKTAIL SPOTLIGHT:
This weeks cocktail in the spotlight is the Tequila Sunrise (pictured left) as made and photographed by our Ninja Susanna.

Named after the way it looks after being poured, the Tequila Sunrise was originally served at the Arizona Biltmore in Pheonix, Arizona in the late 1930's.  A frequent guest at the Biltmore would often ask the bartender, Gene Sulit, to surprise him with a refreshing drink for the poolside.  Originally made with Creme de Chasis, the popular long-ball drink now contains grenadine which creates the rising effect to the colouration.

Ingredients:
Tequila, grenadine (or Creme de Chasis), orange juice, fresh lime and soda water.

Variations:
Tequila Sunset:  Substitute blackberry brandy for the grenadine.
Astronaut Sunset:  Use Tang instead of orange juice (Tang is an orangey drink made from dehydrated synthetic juice).

WHEN THE RIOTS CAME TO WORTHING:
It seems inconceivable but years ago little old Worthing was the stage for riots and civil unrest in 1884.  Nearly 127 years ago to the day and it all centred around the selling of alcoholic beverages and the Salvation Army.

On Sunday, August 17, 1884, the police, the Salvation Army and the Skeletons confronted each other. For an hour the police kept the peace, then the Skeletons rioted.  The area was filled with screaming men, brick dust and broken glass.  The Salvationists returned to their "barracks" and the Skeletons tried to burn it down.  The landlord of the barracks, George Head (according to the 1901 census he lived at 19 Rowlands Road and his descendants live in Elm Road), defended his property and the people there with a revolver, wounding several Skeletons.

Skeletons used banners with skull and crossbones; sometimes there were two coffins and a statement like, “Blood and Thunder” or the three Bs, “Beef”, “Beer” and “Bacca”. Banners also had pictures of monkeys, rats and the devil. Skeletons further published so-called "gazettes" considered libellous as well as obscene and blasphemous.

Both sources agree Salvationists were pelted with missiles.  At Bethnal Green flour, rotten eggs, stones and brickbats were among those used. Salvationists, whether male, female or elderly, were viciously beaten.  When news of trouble in London spread, Skeleton riots took place in other parts of Britain.

Several techniques were employed by the "Skeletons" to disrupt Salvation Army meetings and marches.  Black, sticky tar was put onto alley walls which damaged Salvation Army uniforms as they marched past and threw eggs filled with blue paint at the “Sally Army”.  Other tactics included throwing rocks and rats, marching while loudly playing musical instruments or shouting, and physically assaulting Salvation Army members at their meetings. Many in the town approved, but the Salvation Army continued unabated.

The Metropolitan Police were at first unhelpful. The Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Sir Edmund Henderson denied what happened.  The public eventually demanded action and Skeleton riots in London were belatedly put down.

The events in London this month bear a surprising resemblance to the occurrence 127 years ago and perhaps are an indication of a pressure cooker society, where the down trodden middle classes are to take the fall out from a disemfrancised lower class for the upper classes who are, as usual, just telling us what we're doing wrong.  Perhaps if we were offered solutions rather than promises, we would have something to hope for.  How long before the forgotten middle classes stand up and say "Enough is enough!"

SOMETHING ELSE:
Well....its got a bit political in here all of a sudden so here are a few light hearted videos to cheer us up.  So warm your hands on the nearest Sony shop, pull up a slightly charred DFS sofa and try not to mug tourists because its time for our YouTube section.  Enjoy.

A MASSIVE THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS VISITED OR WORKED WITH TEN COCKTAIL BAR OVER THE LAST WEEK AND WE HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL AGAIN SOON.

Welcome - Sublime, Hypobanana

In this weeks' post we introduce the Sublime Events crew and tell you about how to spend your bank holiday weekend this August, we've added our newest staff members to the Staff page, updated our DJs and Evening Entertainment page, we reveal the re-branded Friday and Saturday nights and as if that's not enough we'll be misbehaving at the back of the YouTube bus.

SUBLIME BANK HOLIDAY:
Recently formed by two hard working and motivated dj's, Ross-B and Macro-B, Sublime have been causing a stir on the scene: Their intuition for what records make a party and move the crowd are second to none. Sublime sets are a tight blend of House ranging from classic to Deep and taking in huge influences from Tech and Progressive. Together they have a career spaning over 15 years.

Sublime events are always a lot of fun. Offering quality music in safe surroundings and a sexy intimate vibe.

With their first event on the 29th July 2011, Sublime are set to rock the decks on the last Friday of every month and will occasionally feature electonic band and live PA, Base Mosquito.  And don't forget that they will be bringing the noise on the Bank Holiday Sunday on the 28th August.

Who are base Mosquito?  According to their website they're designed, produced and created by - Ret Alex (London).

"Surrender your consciousness to a twisted cross over of Electronica, House, Urban, Trip Hop, Dub, Street, Tech-Funk, Tech-Electro, Underground Pop, Nu Jazz, Alternative and Experimental ...(I think that is enough eh??) dance music, journeying from jazzy into a tribal realm of mind-altering melodies and insane beats. Base Mosquito had a monthly residency at Exit Bar on Brick Lane, performed regularly at Camden, Scala Kings Cross, Area Vauxhall, Club Warehouse and play bars, clubs and festivals across the UK. Experience their sound as they join forces with the power of the Kokopelli to bring you an auditory orgasm in cutting edge music."

SOMETHING ELSE:
So, its another YouTube section and this week it was hard to decide the theme as our articles are of a fair mix of things.  And so, here are a bunch of videos which appeal to my change of circumstances.  Having moved in with a partner I am finding myself assuming that as the man of the house, I suddenly have the power of. DIY.  After electrocuting both of my cats and painting one blue I decided that DIY is for people who have the desire to inflict some kind of permanent damage on themselves.  Enjoy!

Welcome - Something a bit Wifi?

In this weeks post we let you loose on the Internet at Ten, we welcome our 20000th hit on our blog, we introduce you to 'Catbook' and have a kids gallery in honour of Dan, and take a well earned holiday in Failand with YouTube Airlines.

Firstly, from all the staff and friends of Ten, a huge congratulations to General Manager Dan and his girlfriend Katie on the birth of their baby this week - A healthy 8lb 6oz girl.  The staff are having a pool on the first words, and so far 'ok' and 'right' are top of the board.

And in honour of this occasion we start the blog with a look at the beautiful kids that parents proudly display on the net.

It's always a bit strange when someone has a photo of their child as their Facebook profile picture, it makes you wonder if the page is for an adult of a child - albeit the latter would be yet to master its motor skills enough to bash out a sentence on a keyboard.  Although it begs the question "how long till there's a 'Babybook'?", where parents can create a profile for their sprog.

We already have 'Catbook' where the users can create a profile for their beloved feline and interact with other cats.  According to the site one 'cat' called Spitfire has posted that he is concerned that Littlefoot and Pushkin are being quiet today.  That's probably got something to do with the fact that ITS A CAT!  It seems that dog owners are very slightly different, Dogbook exists but only as an app which suggests that dog owners maybe just as odd as their cat-owning-counterparts but they know how to work an iphone.

Perhaps there should be a site exclusively for disillusioned loners who enjoy projecting human characteristics upon animals and objects in order to synthesise a relationships with people they don't know, manifesting themselves through a fictional body thus avoiding having to deal with how the world interacts with the REAL them.  Actually there is, but Myspace is sooooo 2006!

       BROWSING ENABLED:
Because life doesn't stop for lunch, Ten is giving its patrons the opportunity to go online at Ten.  Whether you're on a lunch break, fancy surfing for fun or just have some emails to check, between 12.30pm and 2.30pm you can access our Wifi broadband.  All you need to do is buy a drink from our daytime deals range, add yourself to the Ten Cocktail Bar Facebook group and we will give you a code to access the network until 2.30pm.

      Terms and conditions:
      • No P2P, FTP or torrent software.
      • No viewing, editing or coding of sites deemed to be pornographic, indecent or offensive to the public.
      • Sounds must be kept to a personal level, whilst the legal viewing of films is permitted, please be aware of your volume.

      SOMETHING ELSE:
In true blog form here are a few videos from the vaults of YouTube with the theme of kids and babies. OMG there are some real cuties in this video selection, and it proves there's nothing more likely to brighten your day than the sound of a child laughing.

Thank you in abundance for visiting this site and we hope you'll be joining us at Ten Cocktail Bar soon!

      PHOTO PHUN:
Here at Ten we have a healthy admiration for photography and images which evoke certain feelings, and so we have provided you with a short episode of pictures from the vast array of fun images there are on the Internet.

Best News Photos of 2010 - From National Geographic Heavy rains from tropical storm Agatha likely triggered the collapse of a huge sinkhole in Guatemala on Sunday, seen above a few days afterward.
In the strictly geologic use of the word, a sinkhole happens when water erodes solid bedrock, carving an underground cavity that can then collapse. Many parts of the United States are at risk for that type of event.

      Friday, 1 July 2011

      Welcome - B.e.a.uitful Day!

In this weeks post we look at the perfect cocktails for the season, we have a look at the what's coming up in Worthing, a review of how Ten can be sending you to Ibiza this summer and have a little giggle at the expense of the contributors to YouTube.com.

      IBIZA BOUND:
This summer you don't need to be booking your own holiday as Ten is set to give away trip to Ibiza for you and a friend.
All you need to do is come along to Ten on a Thursday night, when you buy a drink we exchange your money for 'Ten' dollars which you can use to buy tickets for the prize draw.  We aren't limiting the amount of entries any one person can have, so you can get as may entries as you like in to us, but do please collect responsibly.

We will be a veritable bureau de change on the following dates; 28th July, 4th August, 11th August and our finale on the 18th August 2011.  The finale is an 'A' Level Results Free Party, where you don't need to be a student to get decent discounts on your favorite drinks.  So start collecting your dollars and you could be on your way to one of Europe's biggest party scenes.

Every week, as we near the final event we will indicating the week and global position with our little Ten style plane.  We have divided up the continent into the four weeks; Week 1, England; week 2, Northern France; week 3,  Southern France; week 4, Ibiza.  So you can follow the progress of the plane as it travels through each stage to the final event on the 18th August 2011.

      Travel Trivia:
The distance of 873 miles between London means that our little plane will be travelling 218 miles per week, which equates to 31 miles per day and approximately 1.2 m.p.h.  This means its moving at the same speed as a Tegenearia Atrica spider, and nearly twice as fast as a Seahorse.
